A cut above for Belowground
We have teamed up with Hong Kong’s Landmark Mall to create the branding and a new retail concept blurring the boundaries between luxury, streetwear, art and culture.
Belowground is a fusion of contemporary art gallery, luxury shopping mall and multi-brand store encompassing the evolution of streetwear from its origins in skateboarding and sportswear, to its contemporary expressions in the collections of historic fashion houses, heritage brands and new, experimental labels.
The design of the retail concept is strong but subtle, minimal yet expressive. It unifies the space with character, without detracting from the personalities of the brands that take centre stage, using blue poured concrete, textured render and plywood, and stainless steel, foresso timber terrazzo and cork retail furniture. Along with a bold glass trainer wall, there are gentle nods to street culture, including bespoke light fittings featuring skateboard trucks.
Belowground can flexibly adapt for art installations, and there is a recording studio for podcasts, talks, DJs and music, further breaking down the barrier between retail and culture. For the branding we invited London-based design practice Caneva Nishimoto to collaborate with us, creating a distinctive and international visual language for the space.
