Park Hill
Le Corbusier-inspired community design
Le Corbusier-inspired community design
We collaborated with influential designer Ben Kelly to bring life back to derelict buildings in one of the UK’s most iconic post-war developments. The Park Hill estate in Sheffield is Grade II* listed, and we were part of a team tasked with transforming an abandoned section into inviting public space for the students living above.
The idea was to rekindle the original social intentions of Park Hill with Béton House, a communal area including a gym, cinema, private dining room, and study room. The distinct colouring – burnt orange, bottle green, scarlet, and mustard – was inspired by the primary ‘Polychromie’ colour palette used by Le Corbusier, the ground-breaking pioneer of modern architecture.
