The house was converted into two flats in the 80s. Fashion Designer Roni Ilan brought the property with a view to return it to a single family home.

The property is just North of London Fields and is within Hackneys Graham Rd conservation area. The Victorian Villas on this street offer access to their large gardens without passing through the main body of the House, so we could take advantage of the light on all three side of the House.

An existing two storey extension was demolished and a steel framed structure was inserted into the south west corner extending to the boundary, allowing us to remove a large area of blank wall and create a top lit Hall linking the Basement to the upper ground floor and connect back to the original stair way. A new simple sheet steel stair now could link all floors.

The new extension was formed in concrete as the predominant internal finish for the lower ground floor, living area. Now with direct access to the garden via vast glass sliding doors and a glass roofed studio with terraces for the client off the now free Upper ground floor area ‘Piano Nobile’ which can be enjoyed as one big grand space.
