Creativity for all within a retail space
Creativity for all within a retail space
Following our work on the Tate Modern Kiosks, we designed and built an area dedicated to creativity within the Turbine Hall shop. Aimed at children but open to all, the “Create” wall encourages visitors, old and young, to express their artistry and display their work for all to see.
The wall, developed at BrinkWorks, our East London workshop, features 1,360 mounted studs that hang discs of off-cut cardboard. We also designed long tables with central recesses for pencils surrounded by stools with powder coated legs in peach, teal, cream or red.
The wall has become an ever-changing gallery wall of figures, eyes, hearts, references to London, odes to hometowns, slogans, responses to current exhibitions and much more.
On its impact, Managing Director at Tate, Carmel Allen said "On the first weekend the new Turbine Space opened with the Tate wall - and the invitation to create at the Brinkworth table - we had a family say to us that they’d never visited the gallery before but the shop made them feel welcome and they felt encouraged to go and see the art. It’s a perfect example of art and commerce working beautifully together."
